Recently, Kathleen “Tunky” Summerall struck Charleston conservation gold. She had at long last located a deeply treasured collection that had gone missing. It was one that represented countless hours and as many insights involving a lifelong mission.

That mission? To save Charleston.

From a swift glance at her home in Ansonborough, it is evident that Summerall knows a captivating collection. Throughout her life, the 90-year-old has leveled a discerning, worldly eye, collecting evocative sculptures, far-flung furnishings and works of art.
